  1. Pioneering series of electric guitars and
  2. bass guitars. The first solid-body electric
  3. guitar on the market was the 1948 Fender
  4. Broadcaster (renamed the Telecaster 1950),
  5. and the first electric bass guitar was the
  6. Fender Precision 1951. The Fender
  7. Stratocaster guitar dates from 1954. Their
  8. designer, Leo Fender, began manufacturing
  9. amplifiers in the USA in the 1940s. Since the
  10. traditional acoustic guitar is a mellow
  11. instrument, amplification was needed to
  12. project the sound in large halls.
